About the Teachers

At Henry Street Fitness, every instructor is more than just a teacher — they’re movement experts with deep classical training and years of hands-on experience. All HSF instructors are classically certified through the most rigorous programs and bring at least 600 hours of education to the studio floor.

Our teaching lineage traces directly back to Joseph Pilates through his chosen successor, Romana Kryzanowska, ensuring authenticity in every class. But beyond credentials, our teachers bring their own unique energy, humor, and style — from smiles that carry you through tough workouts to detail-driven coaching that sharpens every movement.

At HSF, you’ll train with instructors who are dedicated to strength, precision, and community — guiding you safely, effectively, and with just enough joy to make the hard work feel like a pleasure.

Megan Krauszer – Senior Instructor
Dancer. Classical teacher. Smiles through the sweat.

Megan was first introduced to Pilates in high school as part of her dance training. After earning her BFA in Dance from The Boston Conservatory, she moved to NYC and began performing professionally. Pilates helped her stay strong and injury-free through the demands of professional dance, inspiring her to start teaching in 2008.

She completed her classical certification through Power Pilates, studying under Susan Moran and Bob Liekens, and continues to expand her expertise through workshops with Peter Roël, Jan Phillips, and others.

Megan has been teaching at HSF for over a decade, bringing her lifelong movement background and professional dance experience into every class. As a senior-level instructor, she combines deep knowledge with her signature smile — so you almost forget how hard you’re working.

“She’s so sweet, you can’t possibly hate her for how hard she makes you work! Megan pushes you to your limits and beyond, but always with a smile.”

Jamie Graham – Senior Instructor
Performer. Classical teacher. Detail-driven guide
.

Jamie was introduced to Pilates as a young dancer, searching for ways to strengthen her turnout — and she’s been hooked ever since. She began her Pilates training while a postgraduate student at CODARTS in The Netherlands under Marjorie Oron and Romana’s Pilates. After moving to NYC in 2006, Jamie completed her certification at True Pilates New York with Sari Mejia-Santo and Cynthia Shipley.

Jamie has taught at True Pilates East, Park East Pilates, Equinox, and the Joffrey Summer Ballet Intensive, and continues to expand her expertise through continuing education, including Pre/Post Natal Pilates, Anatomy/Kinesiology with Irene Dowd, and elevate education’s advanced studies with Dianne Graci, Ashley Mathews, and Anna Vollmar.

Class is Jamie’s favorite place to be — whether instructor or student. She loves to get into the details of biomechanics and the classical repertoire, building students from the basics toward advanced mastery.

“Jamie is a fantastic teacher, a lovely person, and I spent the entire session in wonder at her ability to be so thorough and yet so clear. I felt clearer, more upright, and more calm and present than I have in a long time. In short, most brilliant.”

Janessa – Instructor
Mover. Global teacher. Playful energy.

Janessa developed a passion for Pilates when she moved to New York in 2001 to pursue her career as a dancer and choreographer. Pilates has been her go-to movement system for the last 25 years, not only as a way of cross-training and conditioning her body, but as a clear way to address and correct many of her dance-related injuries and imbalances.

In 2005, Janessa became a certified Pilates instructor through Steele Pilates and later fully re-certified through BASI Pilates International while also taking on a rigorous independent study of Classical Pilates with master instructors such as Alycea Ungaro, Deborah Lessen, Kathy Corey, and Fredrik Prag. She has taught internationally, running her own Pilates studios in Stockholm, Sweden for seven years and in Brooklyn, NY for three years before deciding to go freelance. Always eager for knowledge, Janessa has completed courses in Anatomy & Kinesiology, Pre/Post-Natal Pilates, Back/Hip Pathologies, Pilates for Scoliosis, Pilates for Special & Aging Populations, and is now beginning some preliminary studies in Laban Movement Analysis/Bartenieff Fundamentals.

In addition to teaching Pilates, Janessa is on faculty at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) teaching dance courses in the Theater Arts Department. She also makes performance works and dance films here in NYC. When Janessa is not teaching something somewhere, she can be found enjoying life in Cobble Hill with her husband and their young daughter.

As a dancer and avid traveler, Janessa loves bringing her playful, creative and challenging style of teaching Pilates to HSF.

“Janessa understands the musculature of the body incredibly well and targets specific areas from the neck down to your fingertips and toes. Her rhythm with music keeps class fluid and fun.”

“I’ve really seen and felt results from coming to Janessa’s classes regularly. Her teaching is so encouraging and positive that I never want to miss it — even as someone who usually hates cardio!”

Sasha, Pilates instructor at HSF

Sasha Welsh – Senior Instructor
Dancer. Anatomy expert. Master of fine-tuning.

Sasha began her study of Pilates in 1994 as a dancer and choreographer, using the method to improve her technique and recover from injuries. She has been teaching since 2004 and brings extensive experience working with clients with special conditions — including pre- and post-natal, as well as those managing spinal and orthopedic issues.

She specializes in anatomy, injury prevention, alignment, and conditioning for dancers, and has been both a student and assistant/demonstrator for renowned anatomist Irene Dowd. Sasha currently serves on the dance faculties of Princeton University and The New School, and has also taught at DeSales University, The University of the Arts, and Swarthmore College.

Her Pilates teaching has reached a wide range of clients — from the cast of Cirque du Soleil’s Alegria to students at some of New York’s top studios, including Real Pilates (Alycea Ungaro) and Bridge Pilates. She has been a senior-level instructor at HSF for over a decade.

As a teacher, Sasha focuses on muscle balance, biomechanics, and awareness, helping clients realign and strengthen their bodies with precision. A long-time Brooklyn resident and proud mother of two, she brings warmth, depth, and personal connection to every class.

“Sasha’s teaching style makes me feel like my body is a musical instrument and she is the conductor. She fine-tunes each of us differently and pays such close attention to our performance.”

“The best at fine-tuning. With Sasha, the focus is on form. She can pick up on anything and make the tiniest adjustments that change everything.”
